BY THE CLOCK

-Isha Jain

Benjamin Franklin rightly said, “Time is money” and web series taught us, “Money is time”. Twenty-four hours of the day, seven days of the week, three sixty-five days of the year, one thousand our hundred and forty minutes of a day, eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds of a day, sometimes, feel less!! A lot is there on the plate- to be socially present, to be physically present, to make a social presence, to make yourself heard, to make yourself seen, studies, friends, family, relatives, sports, me zone: it demands attention and time. It leaves you stressed out! Instead of accomplishing one, we need up losing most!

As per the human tendency of being swayed away with anything which is inviting, relaxing, negative or coaxing; when some endeavours are undertaken due to peer pressure or to follow societal trends; all this leaves one quite exhausted!

What should be done? What can be done? What we are told to do when we were quite young? Learning time management, systematic division of time, allocation of specific time to specific activities. Why do we have time table in schools, time to reach school, time to reach office, particular hours/minutes of a period or a task, time-bar in games, a time period to apply even a face pack? Everything in this world comes with a time limit, an expiry date. As Chanakya said, “There is no present and future of the lazy”. The answer is simply to inculcate the habit of time
management.

Many eminent and successful individuals always talk about valuing time and utilising it. Umberto Eco, an Italian philosopher and novelist, called this- interstices. He said, “We have a lot of empty spaces in life, which is where we wait for others. He utilises this to his own advantage. He states that he is a professor who writes novels on Sundays. Our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is a living testimony of the same. He sleeps for 5-6 hours and has never taken an off so far. He works every minute of the day. Look around and there are numerous examples from mundane to profound of time taken well care of.

After all, all our schooling years and formative years were full of following a regime, once the reins are in our hands, it is all the more necessary to give the proof of our adulthood, how we can handle ourselves in the best possible manner.

Have a blast organising your calendar, make a TDL list each day, have goals for each month, for each year. Reflect every day, you’ll be amazed to see your own progress. What all could be achieved with little organisation! “Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year- and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!” – Anthony Robbins

After all in the words of Miles Davis, “Time isn’t the main thing, it’s the only thing.”
